Roy and Lea Black Raise $2.25 Million with 10th Annual Bay Point Schools Charity Gala

MIAMI, FL (January 30, 2006) – On January 28th, Roy Black, Miami attorney and one of the nation’s premier defense lawyers and his wife, Lea Black, hosted the 10th Annual Bay Point Schools Charity Gala at the Ritz Carlton, South Beach, raising $2.25 million to benefit Bay Point Schools, an alternative boarding school that provides educational, vocational and therapeutic services.

Held at the renowned Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, which generously partnered with Roy and Lea Black in support of their charitable efforts, the 10th Annual Bay Point School Charity Gala included a five-course gourmet dinner, created by Executive Chef Thomas Connell of The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, featuring caviar by Marky’s, and a selection of spectacular wines, champagne, and liquor, donated by Southern Wine and Spirits. Presenting sponsor TEN – A Modus Vivendi Lifestyle Development set the mood for the party with luxurious Fendi Casa settings throughout.

Highlights of the evening included the auctioning of the all-new two-door 2006 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti (retail value of $281,570) which went for $50,000 over retail value, donated exclusively by Ken Gorin of THE COLLECTION, South Florida’s foremost luxury automotive dealership, to Walter Shikany Jr; a Fisher Islands equity membership generously donated by Cedrik Denain; and a walk-on, speaking roll in the movie “Fracture,” starring Anthony Hopkins and Kailee Smith and sold to gala honoree Michael and Iris Smith through a live telephone bidding. Another highlight included the announcement of a new program at the school, CONSEQUENCES, a proactive awareness program founded by Engin Yesil.

Amongst the guests were MIKE PIAZZA with wife former Baywatch Star ALICIA RICKTER, and the fabulous diva MISS ELAINE LANCASTER joined the finest and wealthiest of Miami’s who’s who while enjoying live performances by VINCE NEIL OF MOTLEY CRUE, who performed a rendition of Dr. Feelgood, DJ TRACY YOUNG (the energetic and wildly creative world-renowned dj/producer), DJ Radamus and DJ Mark Leventhal followed by the New York duo Latin Domain, the magical setting was beautifully arranged by The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach.

Special recognition to Kamal Hotchandani and Antonio Misuraca for their efforts in making this event over the top as well as honorees Engin and Ayesha Yesil, James Ferraro, Remy Jacobson, who honored his mother Gabrielle, and Mike and Iris Smith for making the night the talk of the town.

“Superstar Couples” including, Mel and Fran Harris, Deborah and Roland Castro, Steven Posner and Katherine Chessler, Lindi Himmel and Jason Wilby, and Cindy Carr, who, by donating $10,000 to Bay Point Schools Charity, were invited to a private dinner hosted by the Black’s at their home with either Barry Gibb, Mike Piazza, Jamie Foxx, Rush Limbaugh, Gloria Estefan or Vince Neil of Motley Crue. The evening’s Super Star Couples also received a Philip Stein watch, a Gabriella Arango silk wrap, a Rene Ruiz custom made shirt and other fabulous honorariums. Tom & Leslie Murphy of Coastal Construction group also generously donated $25,000 in scholarship money.

Volunteers Esther Jackson, Elena Arango and Lourdes Alatriste were all honored with a bottle of Vince Neil wine from the Vince Vineyards.

For the first time, this year’s gala also featured the filming of a documentary entitled “The Fundraiser.” Produced by The Faktory Production Company, directed by Mark Clark, and in part made possible by Jordie Verite of Home Vision, “The Fundraiser,” which will debut in Miami and be submitted at both the Cannes and Sundance film festivals will document the production efforts of the 2006 Bay Point Schools Charity Gala, featuring all preliminary planning, the culmination of sponsor and volunteer efforts. Additionally, an invite-only private screening is being planned for all the participants to view the premiere of “The Fundraiser” after the main event.
