Black Srebnick Obtains Non-Prosecution in Covid-19 PPP Fraud Investigation
Partner Howard Srebnick and Special Counsel Raymie Walsh successfully represented the firm’s client who was under federal criminal investigation by the United States Attorney’s Office in connection with the client’s application for COVID-19 loans and grants under the CARES Act and the PPP loan programs. As a result of Howard and Raymie’s representation, the government closed the criminal investigation of the client with no criminal charges being filed. This was the best possible outcome for the client, as the filing of criminal charges can tarnish a person’s reputation and cause significant personal and professional damage, even if they are later found not guilty by a jury.
According to the Department of Justice’s “COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement Task Force 2024 Report,” more than 3,500 defendants have been criminally charged with federal offenses relating to the COVID-19 loan programs.
